The person behind this.

Hi, I'm Marija. I am the creator of Croatian Tutoring. It is a project long in the making and a culmination of personal experience, life events, and a wish to help. The Croatian phrase: "Spojiti ugodno s korisnim" comes in handy to describe its core. A loose translation of it would be the merger of that which is pleasant and that which is practical. In other words, working on something I am passionate about is one of the main reasons I started this project.

This is how it all started.

I have decided to dedicate my full time to language teaching after spending years talking to and helping people learn Croatian. I have been receiving a lot of feedback from the people I was mentoring then, and now from my students about their struggles, wants, and needs in learning. And a lot of it was about the lack of adequate materials for their level, how to practice their skills, and how to pass that threshold to higher levels.

Understanding the problems.

I have found myself in the same position when trying to help them. It was particularly frustrating because I am also a language learner, and I understand the importance of these things. Over time, I have decided to take the matter into my own hands by creating materials and teaching using my experience as a language learner and the teaching methodologies I have acquired while completing the teacher's course for philosophy.

The student and the teacher.

I have decided to enroll in the teacher's course for my master's degree to gain a general overview of teaching theories, methodologies, and practices. But what I've learned there has only confirmed my philosophy about teaching, this time from the perspective of a student and a teacher. I believe that a teacher can only be a guide. They can only show you the right way, help you practice, and provide you with the right tools to study. But you are the one that needs to understand yourself enough and do the studying.

Blending experiences.

By combining students' feedback, language learners' perspective, and the teacher's standpoint, I create the learning materials and teach you Croatian. Something to keep in mind is that every student is different. But that every teacher is also different. It's important to know yourself to choose the right teacher as a guide on your language learning journey. On that note, I leave you with homework.
